Frequently asked questions

Short answers to the questions people ask before and after ordering. If yours isn't here, email [email protected].

How to read this page

Every answer below reflects what the platform does today, not a roadmap. Where something isn't offered, we say so in one line instead of hiding it in a footnote. That costs us the occasional order. It also saves you the evening you'd have spent discovering a missing feature after migrating.

The questions fall into five groups: money, location and network, operating systems, data safety, and support. Skim the headings, then jump to the list.

Money

Six plans, from $5 to $28 a month, or ten times the monthly price if you pay for a year. No setup fee. Prices are in US dollars because that is the currency our checkout charges; see the billing page for how renewals and conversion work, and the pricing page for the plan table.

Location and network

One region: London. Each server has a 1 Gbps port, unmetered traffic and a single dedicated IPv4 address with editable reverse DNS. No IPv6 at present. The London page explains why we run one region and how to measure latency from your own network.

Operating systems

Seven images covering the two big Linux families plus Windows. Long-term support releases only, so you're not forced into an upgrade six months after launch. Each has its own page under images with setup notes.

Data safety

Snapshots for a rollback point before risky work; scheduled backups for routine protection; your own off-server copy for the things you can't afford to lose. The portal handles the first two. The third is on you, and it's worth doing.

Support

We answer by email and portal ticket. We fix platform problems: a host fault, a network issue, a portal feature misbehaving. We'll point you in the right direction on OS questions, but we don't administer your server. The managed vs unmanaged comparison spells out the line.

The questions

Questions

Which currency do you bill in?

US dollars. Checkout currently charges USD, so a UK card will be converted by your bank at its own rate, sometimes with a foreign transaction fee. GBP invoicing isn't available yet; we'll update the pricing page the day it is.

Why are prices in dollars if you're a UK service?

Because that is what our checkout actually charges, and showing pounds that don't match your invoice would be misleading. We prefer an honest dollar figure to a convenient sterling one.

Where are the servers?

London, United Kingdom. It is our only region, and every plan runs there.

Which operating systems can I install?

Ubuntu 22.04 LTS, Ubuntu 24.04 LTS, Debian 12 Bookworm, Debian 13 Trixie, AlmaLinux 9, Rocky Linux 9 and Windows Server 2025. You can reinstall to any of them from the portal.

Is Windows licensing included?

Confirm with support before you order a Windows Server 2025 server. Licensing terms for Windows are specific and we would rather answer them in writing for your case than summarise them here.

Can I send email from my server?

Outbound port 25 is blocked by default. Most apps should send through an authenticated relay on port 587. If you need to run your own mail server, request an unblock in the portal after setting reverse DNS, SPF, DKIM and DMARC.

Do you offer IPv6?

No, not at the moment. Each server gets one dedicated IPv4 address. If you need dual-stack networking today, FastNode isn't the right fit yet.

Are backups included?

The portal lets you take snapshots and set a backup schedule for each server. Check the portal for what applies to your plan, and keep your own off-server copy of anything critical. No backup scheme replaces a tested restore.

Can I upgrade or downgrade my plan?

Yes, ask support at [email protected] with the server and target plan. We'll tell you what the change involves, including any downtime, before anything happens.

Is bandwidth limited?

Traffic is unmetered on a 1 Gbps port. The acceptable use policy still applies: no attack traffic, open proxies or spam.

Is this managed hosting?

No. FastNode is self-managed: we run the hardware, hypervisor, storage and network, and you run the operating system and everything on it. Support covers the platform, not your application stack.

How do I cancel?

Cancel from the portal before your next renewal date. Data on a cancelled server is deleted, so copy off anything you want to keep first.

Do you have an API or CLI?

There is an account API with scoped keys and webhooks, managed in the portal. There is no first-party CLI; use curl or a small wrapper of your own.

How do I get support?

Email [email protected] or open a ticket in the portal. Include the server's IP address and what you have already tried; it saves a round trip.

Is there a setup fee?

No. You pay the monthly or annual price shown on the pricing page and nothing else for the base plan.
